Die studentische Vertretung in der Studienkommission:
The Critical African Forum has become a place for me where I can not only contribute intellectually but also try things out practically, whether it’s organizing events or networking. It is a place where I come together with people through whom I can grow personally and take a lot of valuable skills and life experiences with me for my future.
My name is Mohamed Ahmed, and you can call me Ezz. In 2022, I began my master's studies at the African Studies Institute, driven by a passion for interdisciplinary academic research. This follows my bachelor's degree in sociology. Currently, I am writing my master's thesis on the conflict in the Sahel-Sahara region of West Africa.
It all started during the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, which sparked my interest in politics and shifted my academic focus from applied sciences to the humanities. Since then, I've been politically active at the University of Alexandria, where I earned my bachelor's degree. I've also worked as a policy researcher and communications coordinator for several local and international non-profit and development organizations. Continuing this engagement, I work with my student colleagues at the Critical African Studies Forum (CASF) to collaborate with our institute and strengthen student participation within our faculty and the University of Leipzig. Our platform aims to support students and facilitate an enriching study experience.
Critical African Studies Forum
The Critical African Studies Forum is a student-led group within the African Studies program. It aims to foster a representative and inclusive community, create a safer space, and provide a critical understanding of African Studies and knowledge production in general. The forum challenges academic structures and epistemologies by advancing decolonial intellectual work.
