The annual week-long “Masterclass Akkadian Lexicography” is held by the Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Studies of the University of Leipzig in cooperation with the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Leipzig. It is organized as part of the long-term project “Leipzig Akkadian Dictionary” and offers master's students and doctoral candidates the opportunity to gain insight into the latest research in Akkadian lexicology and lexicography.
Masterclass 2025
The Masterclass Akkadian Lexicography 2025 will take place from July 14th to 18th. It provides insights into the work on the Leipzig Akkadian Dictionary and imparts both basic and advanced knowledge of Akkadian lexicology and lexicography. This year the focus is on literary texts. We are pleased to welcome Prof. Nathan Wasserman (Hebrew University Jerusalem) as a guest lecturer.
Participation is free of charge and is open to all master's students and doctoral candidates in Assyriology and related fields. Good knowledge of Akkadian is required.
The masterclass consists of lectures, seminars and presentations by the participants. The exact program will be announced in April.
Two travel grants of €800 each are available for external participants.
When?
July 14th - 18th, 2025. A virtual preliminary meeting for all participants will take place in April (date to be announced).

Conditions of participation
All participants are required to prepare a half-hour paper and present it during the masterclass. The topics will be assigned in the preliminary meeting in April (date to be announced).
The module “Masterclass Akkadian Lexicography” is worth 10 ETCS points. We will be happy to provide written confirmation upon successful completion of the masterclass.
